Loving, Learning and Letting Go

About Ann:  Hello my name is Ann and I am the mom in this relationship.  I grew up in Washington State in a great family, and met who we’ll call DD right after graduating college.  We were married and moved to the south (did I mention DD was in the Army?). I moved away from my family who was very close knit and all the friends  I knew to start a new life.  1 and 1/2 years late Mary Catherine blesses us with her noisy entry into this world.  Fast forward two years later and DD and I divorce and Mary Cate are finding our path in lives on our own.  We have an extremely unique relationship as we have been through lots of ups and downs in life, but the one constant in our lives is that we have had each other the entire journey.  I am a school teacher, and I have found that this has been a perfect profession for a single parent.  When she went off to college in 2011, I thought with the rubbing of my hands together that my job here was done.  Not so.  Not so, now I see how our relationship has changed and grown into something that is so much more than just a mother/daughter relationship.

About Mary Cate: Hi! I’m Mary Catherine! Mary Cate for short and no I do not have a twin named Ashely. I am 19 years old and am currently attending the University of South Carolina studying Public Relations. I am convinced it is the best place on earth. Most people I know are not nearly as close with their moms, but I feel like my mom and I’s situation is completely different from you average mom and daughter. We have been through a heck of a lot together and I know that my life would be so different (and not in a good way) if it was not for my mom’s advice and just being there for me. I hope how close we are never changes because now we are not just mother and daughter but practically best friends.
